Open Burning Permits

DID YOU KNOW that you can obtain an open burning permit online? Effective today, Cape Elizabeth residents now have an additional option when seeking a permit to burn natural wood products outdoors. The Cape Elizabeth Fire/Rescue Department recently partnered with wardensreport.com to allow residents to obtain a permit online at no cost.

Users can visit the site and obtain a permit starting at 9am daily. The site will issue permits depending on current weather conditions as well as the fire danger rating issued by the State of Maine Forest Service. Upon successful issuance of a permit, the Portland Regional Communications Center and the department automatically receives notification of the permit’s location and other applicable information.

We hope that this system provides our townspeople with an alternative to leaving their home during the COVID-19 virus epidemic. For residents who do not have access to a computer, a permit can still be obtained by visiting the Public Safety Clerk located at the Police Department.

Users of this service are reminded to review the Town of Cape Elizabeth’s regulations regarding open burning prior to applying for a permit. For more information, please visit our permits page.
